If you hire teenagers for summer jobs, provide proper safety training before they start work. Each year, about 70 teens die from work-related injuries and about 77,000 land in emergency rooms. Help protect those workers - and yourself - with the information you need. Contact Larry Patton at 703-247-2610 for more information or visit http://www.osha.gov/SLTC/teenworkers/employers.html. |
According to a compliance directive, OSHA will use a company's Days Away From Work Injury and Illness (DAFWII) Case Rate or its Lost Workday Injury and Illness Rate (LWDII) to select work sites to inspect under the Agency's 2003 site-specific targeting plan (SST). The SST plan initially selects all work sites with a LWDII rate at or above 14.0, or a DWFII case rate at or above 9.0. OSHA will also randomly select 200 sites that report low LWDII and DAFWII rates and add them to the primary inspection list. The establishments selected will have LWDII rates between 0.0 and 8.0 and DAFWII case rates between 0.0 and 4.0. Information is available at www.osha.gov. |
Check all local, state, and federal guidelines and confer with your local building inspector to ensure your facility and fire safety plan meet all applicable fire/life safety codes. For specific OSHA regulations, go to the OSHA Web site or check the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) Life Safety Codes. What follows is general information on fire classifications and extinguishers. |
